Excuse this brief interuption. Pictures of knitting and cats have graciously stepped aside for Blog for Choice Day.

Blog for Choice

I am a firm believer in addressing the root cause of things that need to be changed.

Making abortions illegal won't stop them from happening. Women will find a way. Desperate times call for desperate measures and all that.

Nobody wants to have an abortion. It's just that she wants to be a parent even less.

If you want fewer abortions, address the root causes of abortion. Fight for equitable pay for women. Advocate for effective and truthful sex eduation for adolescents. Make contraceptives easier to obtain. Insist that fathers take responsibility, both financial and emotional. Nuture young boys to be responsible. Mentor young women; encourage them to create an identity that is not defined by their relationship to a man. Volunteer time or donate money to organizations that support families with young children. Support wider availibility of health care.Come up with your own idea, this list is far from comprehensive.

I fully support every woman's right to make her own reproductive choices.

If you don't, I didn't expect to change your mind. However, whatever your stance, I hope that in addition to whatever efforts you make in regards to the legality of abortion that you'll consider taking action to improve the lives of future as well as current parents.

Thanks to Alas, a blog for getting out the word. Ampersand at Alas penned a great post today.

We will return to your regularly scheduled mostly knitblog tomorrow.
