Buried Treasure
I finally organized my yarn. I found a few treasures that I forgot I had and a few that I had forgotten where I'd placed them. Best of all I got inspired to knit with what I have.
I also found some pre-blog FOs. Since I've been organizing rather than knitting, it gives me something to show off!
For a couple of years, an LYS ran a promotion whereby they invited their customers to bring in a particular winter garment to be included in a seasonal display. At the end they randomly gave prizes to the participants and I won the big prize - a $100 gift certificate.
- Pattern: Coronet by Alexandra Virgiel, published in Knitty Winter 2003
- Yarn: Lamb's Pride worsted, Prairie Fire
- Needles: size 8 16" (Addi Turbo)
- Etc: This was the first time I grafted K + P stitches. Tricky the first time. Rob loved the hat + made one for his dad in tan.
Here's my very first stranded knitting. The floats were a bit tight, but it's still wearable.
- Pattern: Lusekofte from Hats On! by Charlene Schurch
- Size: 18" (toddler)
- Yarn: Plymouth Cleckheaton Country 8 ply and Tapestry (labels are long gone so no color #s)
- Needles: size 6 16" (Inox, I think)
- Etc: I like the way multicolored yarns + solids look in stranded knitting. Next time I would reverse them and use the solid as the background color.
One of the forgotten treasures I found was a box of blue + ivory dk yarn. There's lots of Scandinavian stranded patterns in Hats On! that I still want to try, now I have the yarn to make them!
