I had purchased a Crypty the Cryptosporidium t-shirt back in the summer of 2001, and had turned the armpits into a bio-hazard hot zone, and went looking for a replacement about a year or two ago. The links on theonion.com to the original article about Crypty were now behind the subscriber-only firewall. So Sad!

I got an email today asking where these shirts could be found. I went rooting around at theOnion and didn't find the shirt, but I did find the article in the public archives! Twice (2000, 2005)!

The t-shirt is not currently available in the online store but I did send an email to see if they have any backstock. Notice on the apparel page of the Onion store, the icon to indicate that you are in the apparel section (upper right corner) is a Crypty t-shirt!

Bring back the Crypty t-shirt! America needs to put a happy face on intestinal parasites. Hmmm. Maybe Crypty could go to Iraq and cheer up the soldiers who got the KBR squirts. The Iraqi civilian water treatment infrastructure has also been struggling to come up to pre-war standards. I bet Iraqi children would love a visit from Crypty. "Help me, Crypty-wan Kenobi; you're my only hope!"

Update: About the t-shirt being available, I have received word back from Dianne Gleason at theonion.com store, saying:

"If it's not on the web store then we have discontinued it."

Bummer...

It's Crypty!

Having read an article from The Onion about the Cryptosporidium Daze festival, I found I pathologically had to have the t-shirt bearing Crypty. Needless to say, it arrived on Friday and I couldn't be more pleased. I'd like to say I wore it to the Burlington Brewers Fest on Saturday, but I wore one that was even ruder from the same shipment. Those of you interested (the prurient kind) can find the t-shirt in the Onion store, referring to the moonwalk.

Update: For several years, the article linked above was only available through the subscribers-only archive of the Onion website. The article has been returned to the public sphere and can be reached using the links above.
